A Spelunker of a game that is sure to beat you over and over. Enter the ruins in search for a book which contains the meaning of life. Pick a class with unique abilities to make the descent easier or harder. You've got your platformer pals with high jumps and sword, bomb throwing dudes, valkyries that can slow their fall by spinning a mace above them, etc etc.
It's not easy though! The game features one-hit kills unless rare shields are found, and the ruins are loaded with angry creatures, spear traps, hooks that launch you upward, movement-restricting ropes, and a number of other sharp hazards that demand players not dawdle. The dungeon is randomized on every attempt, so no two dives are alike.
You can collect treasure and go for a higher score, but more often than not reaching for shiny objects comes at great risk as well!
Even with it's significant difficulty, deaths feel like they stem from your mistakes, challenging players to get better, pay more attention, and slowly get more consistent at reaching the depths.
Or chucking bombs at the floor for several minutes.
