Livestream of the ZZT world "Uddie Blade" by Robovine (1999)
Winning a stream poll with the theme "A ZZTer's Only Game" led me to this one release by Robovine, somebody who was active enough in the community to be cameoed in Tseng's "November Eve", but who only ever had one title to his name.
"Uddie Blade" is a comedic RPG that stood out when looking for something to fit the theme due to it having numerous positive reviews from the z2 era which gave me hope there'd be something to it.
The start is a bit rough, and the game has a nasty habit of using blinking colors to the detriment of one's eyes, but this is a fun little adventure to slay a dragon at the request of the king only to learn that the king has been mind controlled by a dark wizard and then have to escape from prison and team up with some rebels.
The game is unfortunately incomplete and starts picking up just as the game ends. Uddie Blade features a few different engines for variety including the obligatory RPG battle system which are mostly well-coded. At the very least none of them lead to frustration.
Overall it's an interesting experience as Robovine breaks a few RPG conventions of the time and some of the dialog holds up pretty well. I don't think this is a 4.9/5.0 game as the average review scores state, but I can definitely see the appeal especially in the late 90s when the humor would've been even stronger.
