The finale for pop and then a surprise magazine drop!
We pick up where we left off in Pop, just outside the wine cellars with most of the game wrapped up. First we get a brief hallucinogenic trip thanks to some often-fatal wine consumed against the wishes of the three-eyed cellar otter. Then a trip to the tomb ofthe former keykeepers of the Tower before an encounter with an untrustworthy doctor performing experiments on a frightened woman's comatose partner. One ignornant handling of the situation later and uhhhh perhaps one shouldn't jump to conclusions.
At that point, all rooms are explored and the only things left to do are figure out a way past the guardian of the tower exit and find the last of the hidden gems if we're to get the special ending. Game breaking bugs mean having to zap past the guard, and the hunt for the gems also fares poorly due to another error preventing one from being collected! Sheesh! This otherwise quite enjoyable game definitely falls off towards the end.
The game does a great called shot where things get meta and the player is revealed to be controlled by YOU sitting at your computer. You are described as an adolescent boy, making it clear what the ZZTer demographic was like at the time.
With some time to spare we then jumped into one of several issues of a ZZT magazine, the first of a few worlds which will be returning proper in future Wildcard streams. It's one of the more incredible ones, with big empty boards, boards about how big empty boards are bad, key mashed music, and the vaguest reviews for games I've ever seen. (And I've seen some vague reviews in these magazines before!) The zine looks like it's going to receive significant improvements from issue to issue, so it will be a fun transformation to see (at least if the title screens are indicative of anything).
