Some late submissions to the latest 2.4 Hours Jam, and some just plain new releases!
"...Asplode" shows us a Weave Tower Defense game that took a bit too long to develop for the 2.4 hour time limit, leading to a single repeatable level with a single type of upgradable tower. Large blocks of horrors approach the tower to make it asplode, you get to place defenses in a few different positions to shoot at them for as long as you can hold out. The towers are still upgradable, but none of the alternate defenses are actually available. A cool proof of concept that I wouldn't mind seeing continue development!
"Bomb Defusal Technician Simulator" is another jam submission, and one that is fully complete. Study up on the logic on bomb defusal, paying attention to the color of various wires and they way they go over and under one other to figure out how to cut them. Keep in mind that the presence of some wires may change the rules...
...oh hang on, grandma's calling. Oh. She needs someone to help reach the skylight and clear out the cobwebs. I'll be right there.
Suddenly, the game shifts gears and turns into an accurate visit to grandma simulator. She's just trying to be helpful, and the food is so good.
An unexpectedly hilarious fakeout of a game that imo was my favorite of the jam. Well worth keeping submissions opened!
"Die Shrek" starts off the non-jam new releases, being uploaded only a few hours after RT-55J's Minion Slaughtermap, so I thought it would only be fair to compare the two. This one is brief to say the least. Shoot an infinite number of Shreks and Donkeys, or lure the Shreks into some slime to destroy them. Whatever you like man.
"3-n-One NPut" is dave2's stylish new release with some excellent NES inspired presentation. It consists of three different arcade games that will feel familiar enough to anyone who's played oh, let's say Donkey Kong ZZT, Link's Adventure, or Pac-Man vs Zac-Man for ZZT. These modern engines are accompanied by a unique scoring system with ratings and a combined scorecard so you can compete for high scores with more than just a final number.
The games are all quite fun, and all use a turn based system of movement where you and enemies take turns moving step by step. Really good stuff here that's quick to play and challenging to master!
Lastly, "0x0C", a Riven-inspired adventure set on a tiny island. Explore the huts, caves, and tower as you find things to interact with and need to piece together what impact they have on things. As someone who hasn't actually played a Myst game, the puzzles are tough, but paying close attention to small details (and maybe some dumb luck) was enough to get me through the adventure. All the clues you need are here if you're willing to see them!
The game also has some excellent presentation as well. Everything looks quite nice to begin with, with backgrounds added to smaller boards that will really impress!
Real high quality stuff all around. May/June are looking to be some solid months for ZZT this year!
