• (1:46) “Puzzle Depot”
Wrapping up May with a MegaZeux game re-envisioned as a stand-alone release!
Puzzle Depot sees Todd Torial as a new transfer to a warehouse full of boxes that need to be pushed from one point to another. Please don't fall asleep though! This is anything but yet another Sokoban game. For one thing, this company is doing a lot of work in high technology ranging from box-pushing robots that will one day take your job, to interstellar space travel, to cryogenics!
When agreeing to a 24-hour break in statis to help test turns into a multi-year sleep, the only sensible thing to do is report the incident to HR.
Until you get shoved right back into that machine so the scientist can save face.
Next time you wake up, it's the far future and things are not looking good. Giant rust (and flesh) eating roaches nest in the ruins. The outside world is in shambles, and suddenly you're invested in figuring out what's going on.
This is of course all strung together with some high-quality puzzles that feel satisfying to solve, and uses an equipment system to mitigate the difficulty. Some bonus items can be found elsewhere to help make a tough puzzle a little easier, or perhaps you want to hoard them for a yet more challenging screen. Or if you're really daring, bringing them to the end to boost your score for each chapter.
The world of Puzzle Depot allows you to explore room to room, solving or skipping puzzles as you figure out where you need to go and how you're going to get there. It makes it easy to avoid frustration by letting players go work on something else, and the item system aims to streamline forward progress. Puzzle elements are far more than just boxes and DROD-like roaches, with a variety of elements with unique ways to interact ensuring that the game isn't a mere treadmill of box shoving, as well as those little files everyone keeps leaving lying around to slowly fill in the details.
This is a pretty lengthy demo containing the first two chapters of the game, and I was unable to finish it on stream. If you've got a craving for a puzzle game you can sink your teeth into, this is one to check out!
