Welcome to Oktrollberfest 2024! The ZZT community annual trollgame game jam is on its fifth year now and the games continue to impress.
Starting with RT-55J's latest game in the Samantha Arantes series, "Awful Dates Done Quick" sets players up for a visual novel about speed dating until things go awry. RT's usual intricately detailed interiors and expressive and dynamically posed character art. Get a look into Samantha's childhood struggles to make friends as weird kid raised by frogs, run to the school bus with toast in your mouth, and then become forever known as "the girl that makes croaking noises".
And then toss it all away as we snap back to the present and commence dating.
And then toss that all away as we are isekaied into the Goodfry Gadfly world seen in his 2020 selectbutton.net jam entry. A sort of but not quite reverse Metamorphosis as Samantha finds herself sharing the mind of a bug. Then, when a bird attack threatens the insect world, fulfill your purpose and shoot that bird who will have no connections to any of the prior scenes. Trust me.
There's a lot of humor, a lot to explore, and a personal cruelty in the form of retreating Lost Forest's "Zap Factory".
Anyway it's really good and looks great and plays great.
Then, we jump to "YUM YUM TOWN", a single board MegaZeux game with very little to see. The world plays a part in something larger, stressing that you focus on the names of the characters in the small town which happen to include "gmail.com" for your first hint as for what to do next.
