Dave2 brings us a brand new release, and one that really pushes the limits of vanilla ZZT!
The bad news is your grandmother passed away. The worse news is you've just been laid off.
According to her will, her home, her cat, and her debts now belong to you! If you want to keep the home and start a new life for yourself, you'll have to pay off the debts to make the ownership official.
Oh, also you're a wizard and so is everyone else pretty much.
Now to make ends meet, you've become a freelancer dungeoneer, taking jobs fighting off monsters down below and collecting the riches contained underground. Upgrade your magical supplies, catch fish, drink some wizard tea for a mana boost, and most important of all: remember to let the cat out of the bedroom in the morning.
This is a game with some intense visuals, and a lovely amount of detail that makes it a treat to look at. Dave2 manages to turn all sorts of things into unexpected gameplay mechanics from feeding the cat to using the bathroom (finally, a ZZT toilet that _matters), to not leaving the basement lights on overnight lest you face an excessive power bill.
Use a magic orb to find suitable dungeons, facing off in tiny procedural generated rooms to get cash. Keep the furnace running to power your home, and maybe cook some cheesy fish if you have time before bed.
Reminiscent of the early 2000s obsession with "simulations" in ZZT, dave2 creates a rather complex arrangement of systems, that combine to form a very fast paced game where you'll constantly be debating if you should call it a night or try to squeeze out one last job before bed. This, with a number of great board designs filled with unexpected animations and visual effects makes this one of the more impressive looking ZZT v3.2 games around, with gameplay to match.
In this video we get our bearings, after a hefty load of information is dumped on us, and attempt to strike it rich.
