Always bet on Duke, even in ZZT form.
A cute little action game that takes Duke Nukem out of his element and into ZZT. Duke is begrudgingly chosen by aliens to help them win a war against other aliens, with the threat that should they be conquered, the Earth will surely be next.
Unlike most ZZT fan games that try to play it straight, Duke has a lot of complaints about the downgrade he receives in ZZT. His horrible "circle shooting" gun lacks the oomph of a shotgun, and the enemies he fights are kind of brain dead. Nevertheless, he kicks ass and chews bubblegum through an alien ship, single handedly saving his species, and that of the good aliens.
This one was a childhood favorite of mine, probably because it does its best to be humorous while providing some really easy action. It's hard not to win as Duke. A few hidden secrets let players get bigger guns to defeat bosses in fewer hits, yet even the circle shooting pistol is more than enough to deal with anything he encounters. I don't know, this is one of those game where there's just something nostalgic about it.
Otherwise, it's a pretty mediocre action title for ZZT really. As a kid, conquering a video game without effort makes you feel powerful, as an adult, it feels a little pointless. Still, the scenario is charming enough that it can stand out among ZZT's glut of basic shooters.
