Venturing into the depths of Caves Remix, a community reimagining of the Caves of ZZT!
Five years in the making, thirteen ZZTers have divided up this original ZZT world and provided their own arrangements of its boards. The result, is a wonderful new adventure in familiar territory with its own unique voice.
There's the story of Jane the entomologist, who was sent to study cave centipedes she hated until one saved her life. A quiet graveyard divided into the just and unjust, with a lot to dirt to dig up. A pride of lions who warn "adventurers" not to mess with them. A cafe of tigers who might just make you wash the dishes. A kart-race on a rainbow road. A convoluted contraption to extract a key, and a greater key shrine where players get to unravel the path forward one step at a time.
The boards are all crafted with an immediately recognizable amount of care, transforming the dark and dreary Caves into a robust ecosystem where the player is an intruder who may tread carefully, or claim all its treasures as their own. Hot off the heels of playing the original game, this one stands out as quite the celebration of creative expression in ZZT!
It's been a wonderful game so far, and I can't wait to see what else awaits!
