Running through an old classic as a source of inspiration for a ZZT gamedev stream that immediately followed this one!
Darby Town is one of the winners of the original ZZT world creation contest which got it an official release as part of the ZZT's Revenge pack. It's a purple key collecting game like Town, with a slightly more realistic town. Cross the waterfront, explore the camera shop, venture into the hardware store, and other deadly lion-filled locations as you search for the keys to the bank vault where the bank president has been trapped inside by ruffian robbers.
It's a charming game that captures that early ZZT sense of humor with what it asks you to do, and enjoys teasing players without dragging the game down. You get a number of nice boards with creative obstacles and challenges that make for a fine adventure. A handful of soft locks are present, both deliberate and otherwise, as is the way of early ZZT worlds, but the breezy action and cheery world are one still worth exploring!
Even if I soft locked extremely early and had to cheat for the last key...
