After a bit of a hiatus to play through the Oktrollberfest entries, we finally make our return to the Long Voyage, which has lived up to its name in a number of ways. It ain't exactly a short game, and we didn't get through this voyage is a particularly timely manner either, y'know?

Luckily our adventure was put on hold at a convenient chapter break, where after taking an alien transporter beam we wash up on a new island. From here, the unexpected shenanigans and set pieces continue with breaking and jumping off a dam, finally making it back to the cruise ship where the adventure began (and blowing it up), and heading back to our home town famous for it's combination armory/bakery and known for its seedy Cyber Bar scene.

Jong continues to create a memorable world filled with unusual people and places that make for quite the adventure. I had a lot of fun shooting a cannon and blasting away a mountain on the mainland. The player's own home was filled cute details to examine up close, and the graffiti-laden back alley between some of the buildings was a very non-conventional perspective for ZZT.

Sadly this one did suffer from its final boss being a little bit too strong. Ammo was already tight and not much more could be bought with my remaining gems. They take something like 30 shots to defeat, and only register the damage after retaliating with several stars. You get just enough room to reliably dodge, but oh boy does it make the fight take far too long to stay enjoyable.

But the payoff! A "Rescue your kidnapped girlfriend" ends with one of the most out of left field twists I've ever seen. I don't want to spoil it here, but the ending is really something to behold. (Starting at around 1:04:15 after the boss is defeated for the curious).

This game is easily the most impressive world I've seen in Super ZZT (excluding Tyrobain which wasn't around until 2016!) Eagerly awaiting next October's Super ZZT streams when I'll be racing to play the sequel.
