Everyone gets to play in CHATTERgotchi! We take a look at goldbuick's zed.cafe platform (that's a URL), a ZZT-inspired, online multiplayer engine with all sorts of fun special effects, enhancements, and possiblities not offered by ZZT. Control a virtual pet and keep them alive via food and knives. All the while Twitch chat can use a number of commands to interact, filling the room with cans of food, tripping out on mushrooms, shoving the player around, or learning fun facts via text-to-speech. Oh, and dodging anvils dropped from the sky! A neat little showcase of zed cafe, especially when playing with the rendering method to turn this ZZT clone isometric.
Then the eternal march continues with Snorb's latest La Vie game. Somehow, it's taken this long to get to Caves of ZZT as the source of the latest parody. Hell gets a Doom theme. There's a surprising amount of references to King's Quest VI as well, although now that I type that VI and see what number this game is, maybe it makes sense. Pac-Man becomes KC Munchkin. The hotdog vendor gets a more robust menu. And a new cantina in the middle of it all has its share of scum and villany.
Some good trolls inside as well! The take on the northern forest with its key collecting and its follow up got me real good.
Expect the usual cast to make a return, along with Snorb's pretty backgrounds that always make the games so nice to look at. Shame so many boards have to be dark what with the caves and all...
