A Super-Packed Super ZZT series!
While on a cruise, you were thrown overboard and your girlfriend kidnapped. Now washed up on the nearby "Beach Island", you need to find a way back to the boat to save your girlfriend. It seems like the usual damsel in distress rescuing game, but goodness does The Long Voyage live up to its name.
14 year old author Chris Jong absolutely fills the game with anything and everything he can come up with, resulting in an almost surreal adventure where any idea he comes up with gets added. You'll pick mushrooms for a part time job, be captured by the evil Death Slayer, solve key mazes, novel slider puzzles, fight a giant bat, discover secret passages, pick bananas, learn about the dangers of drug use, and rest easy at the Motel Six!
It's a real kitchen sink of a game, filled with colorful graphics and strange characters that make it an absolute blast to play! The only real problems are the lack of feedback for some actions, like needing to shoot a gate multiple times to destroy it with no indication that the bullets are having any effect until it disappears, and a deliberate ammo shortage at the very beginning. Afterwards it's mostly smooth sailing, with Super ZZT's larger board sizes making giving Chris numerous chances to surprise players with something just down the path.
After about 2 hours we're still only halfway through! This one is taking a backseat for a bit to play through Oktrollberfest worlds, but I'm eagerly awaiting a return to it.
